On the 14 October 1977, Michel Sardou, one of the leading figures of the 'chanson française' of his time, married Elisabeth Haas, nicknamed Babette. It gave him a chance to put together the most impressive guest list since the "Salut les copains" photo in 1966.
Caught up in the whirlwind, the media fed the frenzy, quoting in the countless articles covering the event names of guests that didn't appear in any of the photos... The evening, divided in two parts, finished at the Elysée Matignon ... |

The Late Arrival of Sylvie Vartan
Even though Sylvie Vartan was performing that evening at the Palais des Congrès, there was no way she was going to miss the wedding of her friend Michel Sardou. It's true that a mutual affection linked the two artists, who knew each other since at least 1970 when Michel Sardou, then only starting out in his career, opened Sylvie's concert at the Olympia.
It was Johnny Hallyday in person who went to pick up Sylvie at the Palais des Congrès after her show.
Fashionably late, Sylvie made her entrance into the nightclub at Johnny's arm... This fact didn't go unnoticed, especially after their separation went public the year before.
The energy generated by her arrival was captured by the cameras of the NHK, that were also following the Japanese star Kenji Sawada. The artist was in France alongside the producer Misa Watanabe for his own show "Kenji Sawada in Paris"... |

However the second major story of that day, that brought only happiness, was of course Johnny and Sylvie - arriving together, staying side by side almost the whole evening, and leaving together. Johnny and Sylvie, very happy and surrounded by people... and showing real emotion at the happiness of Michel and Babette. You have already seen, on the front page of the papers, Johnny presenting Sylvie with flowers at the start of her show, coming to pick her up after every performance... Very few witnesses at this marriage, at this reception, would be be able to silence the hope that one day, maybe, another reception at the Elysée Matignon would celebrate a similar reunion. (...)
