Sylvie Vartan at the "Popsy Pop" Premiere

"Popsy Pop" is an adventure film directed by Jean Herman. The script was written by Henri Charrière, better known as "Papillon", who took the opportunity to cast himself in a supporting role for what would be his sole appearance on the big screen. The action takes place in Venezuela. Despite mostly unfavorable reviews, this was a big budget movie, widely distributed around the world (as far as Japan) thanks to Claudia Cardinale who starred in it...

The film Premiere was also the first public appearance of Sylvie Vartan since the 20 December 1970. On that occasion, the last concert of her winter tour in Clamart*, Sylvie couldn't appear on stage after being struck with an unexpected illness and hospitalised urgently with suspected hepatitis. She had to cancel all her activities. 

    * Clamard is a  suburban city located near Paris.

It was at the premiere of the film "Popsy Pop" (starring Claudia Cardinale and Henri Charrière - "Papillon") that Sylvie Vartan made her first public appearance since her recovery ... The evening's festivities took place at the Mercury cinema in Paris. The French capital having also suffered the cold wave that struck Europe, Sylvie took the opportunity to appear in a magnificent beige mink coat".

Arriving with a smile... leaving half asleep... After the screening the guests went to the Alcazar,

where the Perrier-Jouet Champagne seemed to restore a little vigor in Sylvie.

In the December 21, 1970 issue of "Elle", Sylvie Vartan presents the spring-summer  "Saint Laurent rive gauche" collection created by Yves Saint Laurent. This was also the first of her four collaborations with influential fashion photographer, Helmut Newton. The pictures appeared in several publications in Europe and Japan. They are very sought-after amongst collectors because of their many variants.
